A Personal Story About Our Real Estate Development Nightmare

A few years ago, we decided to redevelop our family home in Uttara, Sector 7. It was old, and maintenance was expensive, so we thought it would be smarter to work with a developer and build something new. We chose a builder who promised us the world—timely paymentsgreat qualitysmooth handover.

But the reality? Well, it’s a different story. 😞

Despite us being there on-site almost every other day—regular inspections, guidance, you name it—the project was a disaster. They kept switching engineers mid-way. The lead project engineer was hardly ever there. There was constant mismanagement and theft of materials. We even had to wait an extra 12 months to complete the backroom.

By the time we got the so-called “hand over,” it was rushed. Areas were incomplete, the tiling was poor quality, and construction issues were everywhere. We’re still fighting to get them to fix faults—yes, even after all this time. Some work is still left unfinished.

I’m sharing this because I don’t want anyone else to go through what we did. If you’re thinking about doing a development project, please, please do your homework. Ask for references, visit their completed projects, and never trust promises at face value.
